A Taste of Tampere, Finland with Siemasu Coffee!
Siemasu Coffee

Siemasu Coffee is a small specialty coffee roastery founded by three friends in 2024 in Tampere, Finland, with one shared obsession: discovering how incredible coffee can taste.

"Our journey started around eight years ago when we began exploring specialty coffee and tasting hundreds of coffees from roasters around the world. The more we discovered, the more fascinated we became by the incredible diversity of flavors that coffee naturally offers. Eventually, we decided to start roasting ourselves."

At Siemasu, their philosophy is pretty simple: great coffee deserves to taste like itself. They focus on carefully sourced, high-quality specialty coffees and roast them to highlight their natural sweetness, acidity, clarity, and unique characteristics. The mission is to expand people’s understanding of what coffee can be and taste like.

Tampere, Finland, is a city surrounded by beautiful lakes, forests, and a strong industrial heritage. Tampere is known for its relaxed atmosphere, creative energy, and a growing culture of independent businesses, restaurants, and cafés. It’s a city that feels big enough to be exciting but small enough to maintain a strong sense of community. And considering how long and dark Finnish winters can be, having an amazing cup of coffee is definitely something they appreciate!

"We think Tampere represents a really interesting combination of tradition and creativity, and that’s something we try to bring into our approach to coffee as well. Finland has a deeply rooted coffee culture, and Finns are among the world’s biggest coffee consumers. However, we believe there’s still so much more to discover beyond the traditional cup of coffee. We want to respect that coffee-drinking culture while introducing people to something completely different. Our approach is curious, open-minded, and a little playful. We take sourcing and roasting seriously, but we don’t believe enjoying great coffee needs to be complicated or intimidating. Coffee should be exciting, approachable, and most importantly, delicious."

All two, three, and four bag Discovery subscribers will be receiving this jammy Ethiopia! Siemasu's beautifully delicate, floral, and jammy natural Ethiopian coffee from the highlands of Yirgacheffe. This coffee comes from Mr. Mengeche Derso, a 62-year-old farmer who has spent his entire life growing coffee in Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone. He manages a 15-hectare farm at approximately 2,200–2,300 meters above sea level, working alongside four of his twelve children. The extraordinary elevation and growing conditions contribute to the elegant and complex character of this coffee. This coffee is part of Café Imports’ Single Farmer Project, which focuses on improving traceability and giving individual Ethiopian coffee producers greater recognition.

"What makes this coffee particularly exciting to us is its beautiful combination of floral elegance and fruity sweetness. In the cup, we experience delicate birch sap-like sweetness, vibrant berry jam acidity, and a beautifully refined Assam tea-like finish. There are also lovely hints of elderflower and caramel that make the whole experience incredibly enjoyable. Despite being naturally processed, it maintains a wonderful sense of clarity and elegance. It’s the kind of coffee that reminds us why we fell in love with specialty coffee in the first place."

"First of all, thank you for giving our coffee a chance! It means a lot to us that something we’ve carefully sourced and roasted here in Finland gets to travel across the world and become part of your daily coffee ritual. If there’s one thing we’d love you to remember while enjoying Jamming Queen, it’s that coffee is a fruit We believe one of the most exciting things about specialty coffee is discovering how different varieties, growing environments, processing methods, and roasting approaches can create completely different flavor experiences. So take a moment, enjoy the aromas, let the coffee cool down a little, and see how the flavors develop as the temperature changes. And most importantly, have fun with it!"

Here’s a great starting point for a V60:
  • Coffee: 15 g
  • Water: 220g
  • Water temperature: 92C
  • Grind size: Coarse
  • Total brew time: Approximately 2:30
  • Start with a fast circle pour 50 g (10ml/s) bloom and wait 40 seconds.
  • Slow circle pour (4ml/s) to 120g.
  • Center pour gently (4ml/s) until you reach 220 g
  • Total brew time around 2:30
  • We recommend letting the coffee cool slightly before drinking. You’ll notice how the floral aromatics, sweetness, and acidity evolve as the temperature drops. Of course, every grinder and water composition is different, so feel free to adjust the recipe to your taste!
